Whether you are enjoying a staycation this summer or heading over to Europe for a break somewhere sunnier, hiring a car is a popular choice for many reasons and for many customers with varying budgets. As well as providing a blank, clutter free canvas and often more generous boot space for all your luggage, holiday car hire can provide ultimate peace of mind. Whilst your trusty run-around may be perfect for use closer to home, hiring a vehicle for trips further afield can settle those worries about breakdown. Your hire car may also provide a little more space for you and your family to travel in comfort to your chosen destination.
Here at Collison Vehicle Rental, we have assisted customers from all walks of life with car hire. Customers looking for a holiday hire car certainly won’t be disappointed by our extensive range of vehicles, professional support and simple pricing structure. Whilst we aim to offer the best possible deal for vehicle rental for any occasion, there are a number of steps you can take to save money on your holiday hire car.
Know what’s included
We provide a range of extras and protection options for our customers, however going back to basics is a great way to save money and enjoy high quality holiday car hire that’s bang on budget. All the rental quotations we provide are inclusive of your vehicle rental cost, insurance, breakdown cover and VAT.
Bring your own extras
Hiring items like sat navs and car seats for the kids may seem easier at first glance but if you are on a budget and have these items at home, then bringing your own may be more beneficial. For those in a rush or looking for hassle free hire, our extras help you to enjoy the convenience of having these items preloaded into your hire vehicle. We provide these extras at competitive prices, unlike many rental companies who charge a premium for such conveniences.
Consider excess insurance
As part of our rental quotation, insurance is just one of the items that comes as standard. Like many rental firms in the UK, we provide Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) policies, which deliver essential coverage for almost every eventuality. These types of policies however come with high excesses, £1,000 excess here, but as much as £1,500 with other rental companies.
Excess protection insurance is a great little extra that may add a few extra pounds to your rental quotation but could save you thousands in the event of an accident, theft or accidental damage. Excess insurance is charged daily for the length of your rental period and ensures the high excess that accompanies CDW insurance is reduced to a more manageable level or waived completely.
Avoid full-to-empty fuel policies
In theory full-to-empty fuel policies are great, but the reality is much different. Popular with rental companies based overseas, full-to-empty fuel policies involve you paying for a full tank of fuel and returning the vehicle with an empty tank. In most circumstances, it is impossible to return a rental vehicle with an empty tank – unless you purposefully drive away every last drop – meaning you are paying for fuel that you don’t use. Often the initial full tank of fuel is also purchased at an inflated price.
Whilst convenient full-to-empty fuel policies are unnecessarily expensive, and rental customers can actually save money by filling up themselves.
